In the footsteps of Queen Marie – a tour of Marienburg Castle
For many Hanoverians, Marienburg Castle is one of the most popular places to visit. The ascent to the 40-metre-high tower of the Marienburg offers a unique view of the Calenberg region. In summer, the castle’s romantic courtyard is transformed into the perfect venue for open-air events. Enjoy cabaret, acrobatics, live radio plays and concerts on warm summer evenings.
Located about 20 kilometres south of Hanover near Nordstemmen, Marienburg Castle was built between 1858 and 1867. The former King George V of Hanover gave the castle to his wife Marie on her 39th birthday. For those who love adventure and history, Marienburg Castle also offers guided tours of the castle grounds. Learn about the rich history of the castle and its inhabitants, including the Kings of Hanover and their families. See the magnificent rooms such as the throne room, library and royal bedrooms.
