The fair found its origin in the “1st German People’s Show for Fire Protection and Rescue”, which was organized in 1935 by the NSDAP Reichsführung and the Ministries of the Interior, Propaganda and Aviation in Dresden. The name “Der Rote Hahn” (The Red Rooster) came about as a result of a prize competition held by the Dresden Municipal Exhibition Office, the winner of which was the Dresden painter and graphic artist Helmut Müller-Molo.
